Reading-Berks Artist (Scrivener and Decorator)
The Reading-Berks Artist was a fraktur artist who worked in Berks County and was very familiar with the work of fraktur artist Conrad Gilbert. Frederick S. Weiser and others have speculated that this artist may have been Johann Peter Gilbert, son of Conrad Gilbert.
Berks, Pennsylvania, Mid-Atlantic, United States, North America
Origin probably southeastern Pennsylvania, possibly Berks County. Pastor Weiser notes, "The spelling is quite bad, suggesting American provenance, as does the repeated assertion that the event ocurred in Europe, or Germany."
